Destination URL Parameters

If you use a web analytics tool such as Google Analytics, Omniture etc. you may want to add additional destination url parameters to help track your Pepperjam Campaign in relation to your overall website data.

To add additional tracking parameters got to Creatives > Generic Link. Enter your parameters in the destination url parameters box and click save. These will automatically append the parameters to all links within the program.

Appending analytic parameters:

The following describes what types and how to append analytic parameters to a program’s creative links.

Definitions

Anything contained in brackets such as {subid} is a dynamic field that automatically populates through a user initiated click. Static fields are parameters such as utm_source=Pepperjam or cm_mmc=Pepperjam.

  • Dynamic fields defined
    • {subid} = unique numeric publisher identifier from Pepperjam Network
    • {clid} = unique numeric click identifier
    • {creative} = inserts the numeric link type and the creative link ID (ex. 2-250123) -the first ‘2’ defines a text link.

Commonly used provider examples

  • Google Analytics (recommended format)
    • utm_source=pepperjam&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign={subid}&utm_content={creative}

  • Coremetrics (recommended formats)
    • cm_mmc=Affiliate-_-{subid}-_-CampaignName-_-{creative}

or

  • cm_mmc=Pepperjam-_-Affiliate-_-{subid}-_-{creative}

  • Convertro (recommended format)
    • cvosrc=affiliate.pepperjam.{subid}&cvo_cid={clid}

Adding the parameters

You are able to auto-append or manually append analytic parameters to the creative links in a program.

Auto-append

  • To automatically have parameters added to creative links in the program, click on the Generic Link in the creative drop down menu of the program interface.

  • Add the parameters to the Destination URL Parameters box then click save. Be sure that each defined field within the URL parameters you’re setting up has a ‘&’ in between. If you leave out an ‘&’ symbol between parameters, everything after where the symbol should have been will drop off and may not come through on the analytics reporting.

  • Once this is done, you can go in and add banners, text and coupon links using just the homepage link or designated landing page. The system will automatically append the analytic parameters when clicked through.

Manually append

  • Go in to add a text, coupon or banner link and setup as you normally would. Add the parameters as shown below.

  • The only reason you would need to manually add parameters is if you plan to change a static field frequently. This could be to identify a promotion (ex. utm_campaign=25OFFMAY10SALE) or even the creative type (ex. utm_medium=affbanner)

Generally you want to be either auto-appending or manually appending the parameters. Having both in will not cause an error, but just doubles up the fields going through. Plus, the potential to send wrong information exists.

Testing

After adding the analytic parameters to the program links, you should test out the links using your publisher account.

Log into your publisher account. Go to ‘Find Creatives’ for the program you are working on. Choose a text link and click on ‘Get Code’.

Copy then paste the Tracking URL into your browser.

If setup correctly the dynamic fields will populate and the static fields will carry through.

Setup:

http://www.juicycouture.com/solid-track/l/212?utm_source=pjn&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign={subid}&cvosrc=affiliate.pepperjam.{subid}

Link resolved:

Testing deep link functionality

If the program allows deep linking, it is necessary to ensure the parameters are resolving correctly if a publisher decides to link to a page other that than home page.

Choose a link to a page other than the home page for the program you’re working on (Ex. http://www.juicycouture.com/Women-Tops/l/104). Expand the ‘Code Options’ box in the Find Creatives menu and add that URL to the Override Destination URL box – click apply options.

Click ‘Get Code’ on a banner or text link. Copy the tracking URL and paste it into your browser.

You should see all the parameters come through as you did in the previous step.
